Dark patches. Liver spots, Brown spots. Flat moles. There are many names for them. There is a scientific name for them and it is called hyperpigmentation. This usually occur in women who are past menopause or close to it. Men can also be plagued with this skin disorder. The hands and the face are the areas of the skin most prone to sunspots but they can be originate anywhere on the body. Hormonal changes and excessive sun damage are the common culprits. People can accept beauty marks but most are looking for ways to remove sunspots.
These spots occur when the body is exposed to sun for a long period of time without sunscreen. The excess sun causes the body to create extra melanin. The sunspots are actually melanin that does not fade away. This is when the disorder hyperpigmentation occurs. The names associated with sunspots are misleading. There are called “age spots” but every one who is over a certain age does not have them. Age is not a factor in developing sunspots. They are also called “liver spots.” The liver does not have anything to do with sunspots.
Sunspots are harmless but if you notice a change in color, shape, or size they should be checked by a doctor to rule out skin cancer. It takes great patience to remove sunspots. If you take a proactive approach to dealing with removing them, a major difference can be seen in three to four months.
It is important to keep the skin exfoliated. Hyperpigmentation is not just on the surface. It is deep within the skin and it is important to continuously help the skin create new skin cells so the sunspots can diminish and fade away. You will also need to treat the sunspots with a topical cream or gel. It is important to use the product not only on the sunspots but on your entire skin surface. If not, you will end up with uneven skin. This is a skin disorder that is not cured with a quick fix. Those who have to endure with sunspots must be patient and dedicated to following a treatment that will eventually fade them away. |
